Hello readers!

By the time you read this blog, you would have realised that we had not been blogging for awhile.

This is because this blog has been submitted to our tutor for marking.

And yes, this is possibly the last post we will ever post in Http://yoursingapore-nightlife.blogspot.com

Time Flies when you enjoy.

It has been a remarkable 2 and a half month duration working on this blog and trying our very best to present Nightlife to all readers, in a Singapore perspective.

Perhaps Singapore could be a novice in nightlife compared to other countries, but Singapore is definitely a place where dreams are achieved.

Along the way, we have face certain challenges in bringing out the beauty of nightlife to every reader here.

1st up, As a Year 1 student in Temasek Polytechnic, our knowledge and wisdom in Hospitality and Tourism may not be as experienced as our tutor. This include our AGE..  There are certain restrictions that we need to follow as a young tertiary student of 17-18 years old. Yes, Places like Red-light District and Clubbing activities happening around in Singapore will gave us a Access Deny Stamp when we enter them. However, We have tried our best to do some research in books and internet to provide an all - rounded night life experience for everyone.

Next, As the Theme Suggested, the activities that we advertise on this blog are done within the time from 6pm to the wee hours of the next morning. We could face with the possibilities of Curfews due to our young age. Nevertheless, we have tried our best in bringing out the nightlife element in Singapore. Like the Field trip we had for Orchard Road, Timbre and Clarke Quay Area. 

The team hope that this project will allow us to remember some of the Nightlife spots we have visited compared to all the other classmates that are doing different theme of Singapore. And of course, Prepare our Adulthood. (laughs)

Strange speaking, SENTOSA is known for its beach feel and recently, the Resort World Sentosa. So how can Sentosa be linked to NIGHTLIFE? :)

The Sentosa Island is located just 15minutes from the city. During the daytime, Sentosa would be filled with beach goers getting a tan on the beaches of Sentosa and during the night-time, its a whole lot of different things that you can do there!

Sentosa might be of only 500 hectares but you'll be surprised but what it has to offer for your night activities!

At night, Sentosa has whole lots of attractions like Desperados, Sentosa 4D Magix, Sentosa CineBlast and lots more! The one that can't be missed is The Merlion because no visit to Sentosa is complete without meeting the most famous, 37-metre tall resident, The Merlion! When you step inside the Merlion, you'll be transported to the depths of the ocean to meet legendary sea dragons and mythical mermaids. If you're fit enough, climb to the crown and you'll be able to have a spectacular 360o view of Sentosa, including Singapore's southern shores and a glimpse of the dazzling city skyline. Be quick to enter into the Merlion as the last entry is 7.30PM

There are definitely too many things that you can do in Sentosa that I can possibly list out! Let's take this slow and steady! Sentosa is divided into various parts. We have the Imbiah Lookout, Silso Point, Beaches and the newly opened Resorts World Sentosa! Lets just start from Imbiah Lookout!

Imbiah Lookout:It is situated near Mount Imbiah on Sentosa and has 7 attractions that you can lookout for at the night! Imbiah Lookout is the latest cluster of new and exciting attractions that will appeal to all. Adventure-seeker, nature lover or history buff, there's always something fun and exhilarating for you!

Various attractions include: 
1. Jewel Cable Car Ride ( Opens from 8.30am-10pm daily)
On this attraction, you'll be able to have a stunning 360-degree view of the Southern precinct! Try this ride at night, best place on Singapore night where you can propose to your future spouse! Why not? :)

2.Desperados (Opens from 10am-9pm daily, last show: 8.45pm)
Have you ever experience a virtual shoot-out? If your answer is no, this is the right place for you go! So go on and ride on the motion-based saddles and gallop through this animated movie while shooting bandits using hand-held laser gun.

3. Sentosa 4D Magix (Opens from 10am-9pm daily, last show: 8.45pm)
Too busy at the beach during the sunny day? Why not try Sentosa 4D Magix at night? Sentosa 4D Magix presents an interactive movie experience with 4-dimensional digital effects. This multi-million Sentosa 4D Magix Theatre is the first in Southeast Asia. Equipped with in-built speakers as well as environmental effects like water features, seat vibration, leg ticklers and base shakers to give you THE ultimate difference.So get ready to be tossed about in your seats, feel the wind blowing in your face and the water rushing your way!

4. Sentosa CineBlast (Opens from 10am-9pm daily, last show: 8.45pm)
It is a thrilling 4-dimensional motion-simulated ride that is built at a cost of $4.5million. You'll be sitting inside a cyclone unit that is mounted onto a 6-axis system, that will let you experience amazing real-life thrusts and motion unlike any other.

5. Skyline Luge Sentosa (Opens from 10am-9.30 pm daily)
You can navigate down 650 metres of the Jungle Trail or 688 metre of the Dragon Trail as thrillingly fast or cruising slow as you like. After Luge, board the Skyride and take in the fantastic scenery of the city skyline and beautiful coastline. And as the night sets in, it will be a whole new different advanture. Thrill-seekers will discover a different challenge while manoeuvring down each track with unique lightings.

6. Tiger Sky Tower (Opens from 9am-9pm daily, last entry: 8.45PM)
This is Singapore's tallest observatory tower, a distinctive landmark, soaring high above the surrounding natural greenery.From the tower, you'll be able to enjoy panoramic views across Sentosa and Singapore's Southern Islands – as well as neighbouring Malaysia and even Indonesia.

Siloso Point :
1. Underwater World Singapore (Opens from 9am-9pm daily, last entry: 8.30pm)
You'll be able to have unique encounters with marine animals. For example, feeding of the gentle rays and sharks, defy gravity feeding fishes through openings at the side of the MAGIC-T tank, spot masters of disguise like the amazing mimic octopus, allow giant isopods to crawl all around you and even tunnel under the sea on an 83m long voyage to the colourful Reef and Ocean Colonies!

1. AZZURA Beach Club

3. Songs of the Sea (Opens from 7.40pm-8.40pm daily, addition show at 9.40pm every Sat)
This attraction brings you a mesmerizing show with a live cast, dramatic effects and pyrotechnics. Water jets, flame bursts, lasers and captivating music make this a one-of-a-kind entertainment spectacle that's fun for everyone. Song of the Sea is on our favourite list! The story line is touching and meaningful about Singapore! I bet you can learn more about Singapore in this musical! Be fascinated by the fireworks!

4. Wave House Sentosa(Opens from 11am-11pm on Sun-Thu, 11am-2am on Fri & Sat)
At Wave House Sentosa, you'll be able to experience Singapore's first artificial barreling wave. Although this seems to be an "Adventure and Sports" , but believe it or not, WaveHouse Experience at night is way different from Sunny Afternoon! In other countries, you are forbid to swim or even ride on a wave once the sun sets. But for those we love the wave, they would want to continue their wave riding at this place! The Wave House is certainly a good place to be. Beating music, Party atmosphere, An AWESOME place for you to show off your "waveeee" skills!

                                                
Resorts World Sentosa:
1. Festive walk( Opens 24/7 )It has everything that you want here! From places for you to dine, shop and club! Best of all, FestiveWalk opens 24/7, and it comes alive at night with roving acts. There is also the Crane Dance which is a performance that involves a love story of a pair of mechanical cranes, whose undying love for each other transforms them into real birds. In addition, there is also Lake of Dreams™, where flaming dragons, water cannons and laser special effects are used to put up a spectacular show.

2. Universal Studios Singapore ( Opens from 10am - 7pm daily, Hollywood After Hours open on Fri & Sat from 7pm to 10pm)


The Universal Studios Singapore features 24 movie-themed rides and attractions and 18 of the attractions are unique to Singapore. The theme closes at 7pm daily, however you'll be able to visit to Hollywood part of the Universal Studios on Fridays and Saturday from 7pm-10pm!

3. Voyage de la Vie
This is an original rock circus spectacular which comprises world renowned circus stars. This spectacle is told through pulsating music, fabulous costumes, awe-inspiring sets and death-defying stunts. Dining:There are too many places for you to choose from! There are Beach Bars, Cafes& Bistros, Restaurants, Food Court.
If you're going to have private dinnes or corporate events, I would recommend the Exquisite Tastes by Sentosa. They are capable of whipping up delightful cuisines that are specially customised to satiate your taste buds.  The Exquisite Tastes by Sentosa team are also the people behind the success of Fort Flavours, winner of Pinnacle-Award 2008. By MRT:
Hop on to Singapore Rail Transport, the MRT! Head on to Habourfront MRT station.
Head to Vivo City (which is located above the MRT station) Level 3 where you can see the Sentosa Express!

By Bus

Welcome to Nightlife @ Night Safari!

Description:
The first night zoo in the entire world! We are very proud of this exciting attraction. In our humble opinion, The Night Safari can be considered a healthy "Nightlife" activity for all demographics to enjoy. Adapted from the Night Safari Website , it said to have over 1,000 Nocturnal animals living in the zoo. The attraction, a 9 time winner of the Best Visitor Attraction Experience by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), has attracted more than millions of visitor since its grand opening and it is credited to the product, service quality and of course, all the zoo keepers effort in keeping all the nocturnal animal healthy! Kudos to them!

And after reading the website, we realised that behind the scene, The Night Safari have also taken care of threatened species and even breeding them to prevent extinction!








What we Say:


We definitely recommend the Night "zoo show", Creatures of the Night show. If you have experience the Animal Show at Singapore Mandai Zoo, do not miss their sister performance - Creature of the Night!
Present in a way to entertain all Walking Mammals(human beings) by selecting users to be part of the show every night! However, Seats are limited as due to first come first serve basis. Dont be disappointed!


Show times: 7.30pm, 8.30pm, and 9.30pm daily (weather permitting). Additional show at 10.30pm on Fridays, Saturdays and eve of public holidays. 


If you do not mind the walking, why not take up the walking trails? Dont worry, all the animal are kept in open cage concept and they are likely not to harm you. :) All 3 walking trails (Leopard ,Fishing Cat and Forest Giant) are linked together and you will not miss any of the trails!


The Asian Riverine Forest showcases the importance of water as the largest mammals found in the safari are found in this area. The Asian Elephant and Malaysian Tapir that are blend in the forest surrounding makes it hard to spot them in reality. But Change your perception in viewing things and you will be captivated by the amazement of wildlife and nature.







Watch Africa Wildlife show? Ha! Animals from Africa are brought to Night Safari at Equatorial Africa showcasing wildlife such as Cape Giraffe and Serval (a wolf-deer).



Of course, there are other sectors in Night Safari are worth worthy to explore like the Burmese Hillside, Indo-Malayan Region, Indian Subcontinent and Himalayan Foothills.







Food and Beverages:
After an exciting time travelling around Night Safari, why not head down to the Ben and Jerry Scoop shop for some refreshing Ice-cream? No worries as there wont be Monkeys snatching away all the ice-creams. :)

If you are hungry, there is a burger Outlet name Bongo Burger where you can purchase burgers that will satisfy your human soul! If you are willing to spend more, dine in at Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant where set meals are available for you and your family! :)


Conclusion:
We have so much to talk about for Night Safari in terms of the facilities. The service quality by the staff here are friendly and they wont bite like a tiger. It is definitely a 10/10 rating when you choose this place as one of your nightlife spots when you visit Singapore. For the one million and tenth time, DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE! Modern people these day like to go for the best things in the world. Why not come to the First thing in the world? Night Safari!

NIGHTLIFE DURING FESTIVE SEASON!


WELCOME TO NIGHTLIFE @ LITTLE INDIA!

In our final installment of Nightlife during Festive Season, we are going to talk about Deepavali and Singapore's Little India!

History about Deepavali:
Deepavali is celebrated in the month of "Ashwayuja" (seventh) month of the Hindu Calender. It usually falls between the Month of October and November.

The great significance of this season is that the Hindu believes that Deepavali is the day where good triumph over evil ones. In fact, the word Deepvali means, Festival Of Light.

To cut the long history short, Deepavali is to remember the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshman, from his fourteen-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. [adapted from wikipedia]


What believers in Singapore do on this day:
Before this day, they will prepare themselves by heading over to Little India located at Serangoon Road for shopping. They will prepare Deepavali gifts, having family and friends gathering, wearing new clothes to symbolise new beginning, and heading over to The Sri Veerama Kaliamman Temple at  for prayer and worship. They will also light up candles around their house during nightfall.

What does Nightlife has any concern with Little India and Deepavali?

During this season, Little India will be light up with Deepavali lightings and decorations. The bustling crowd will also hype up the festive season atmosphere.It is certainly a great place to be at to celebrate The Festival of Light along with all other Hindu believers. Do embrace tolerance as it may get too crowded during the night. :)

What we say?

If you are interested in Hindu culture and would want to appreciate it, we would suggest to visit these places in Little India.

The Sri Veerama Kalimman Temple is a place where Hindu believers gather for prayer and worship. It is established between the year 1855 and 1860. Be enriched by the culture and Tour guide services are provided in Singapore Visitors Centre and Changi Airport upon arrival.

Mustafa Centre is a 24 hour operated shopping centre. They have almost everything for you to bring home and they are cheaply sold at great affordable prices. A great place to get great bargain for gifts and souvenirs. The team has been there a few separate occasion and are able to get stuff that pricing are cheaper than retail prices.

The Tekka Centre is located right outside Little India MRT Station and they have great saris and lots of Indian and Hindu Culture related antiques and goods.I am sure you are able to get nice Indian dress and clothing for your family. All size available! You are able to buy good quality cloth and silk at here too! The ground floor of the complex is a hawker centre and wet market that sells authentic indian ingredients and cuisines. 

 

Of course, after visiting all the heritage and shopping centre, it time to visit the shophouses of Serangoon Road where the goldsmith shops are located at. Great authentic Gold are found in the goldsmith. Jewelry from india can be sold to everyone, be it young or old!

Our say:
Indeed, Little India is  like a miniature India In Singapore. But when the term "light" comes into place, we need to come into contact to "nightlife" as Light expels Darkness. Hence it is vital that nightlife during Deepavali take into place with nice lightings and decorations.

However, other parts of the world such as in  United Kingdom do celebrate Deepavali. The Picture below is taken from wikipedia showing people in UK celebrating this Festival of light.

The vibrant nightlife at Little India is certainly inspiring during festive seasons.

NIGHTLIFE DURING FESTIVE SEASON!

This is a special 3-part series where we are going to cover on Singapore's celebrated festivals on Christmas, Chinese New Year and Deepavali and this would be the second post after the previous post on Nightlife at Orchard during Christmas.


For this post, we are going to touch on Chinatown which is one of the most popular places where many people, especially the Chinese, would visit before or during Chinese New Year.


Origin
A famous legend commonly told would be that: A long time ago in China, there is a deadly beast that went around villages destroying villagers' lives, making lives miserable for everyone. Soon, people found out that by putting up red paper and firing fire crackers, they can scare away the beast and hence, the Chinese does the same routine every year and this progressed into a celebration every year. Hence, Chinese New Year is considered as an important occasion for the Chinese to celebrate the riddance of the beast "Nian".


What do people do at Chinatown?
As Chinese New Year is approaching soon, Chinese will head down to Chinatown to do their last minute shoppings for new clothes, gifts for relatives and friends, goodies, decorations, mandarin oranges and etc.



Before Chinese New Year, Chinatown will be decorated with the different unique ornaments of zodiac figures most families would especially take a trip down to Chinatown to snap pictures of them in the night where vibrant lights are lit up. Besides, countdown parties and performances such as Lion dance, Chinese dance and Wushu performances by overseas performers will be held every year. To get the atmosphere of the exciting and joyous experience, you will need to head down to Chinatown but do keep a lookout for pickpockets though!








On normal occasions, Chinatown will still be a heavenly place for those food-lovers and historic-sites lovers. Sauntering along the streets of Chinatown Food Street, one will be able to spot all the cheap yet "finger-licking good" delicacies found in Singapore. As the night sets in, historic-site lovers would be captivated by the well-preserved old pre-war shophouses that will intrigued them of the nostalgic past of these historic buildings.





In addition, there is also the famous Chinatown Trishaw Night Tours for you to gain more understanding of Singapore's Chinese culture and history.  It will be conducted in the evening, starting off with a dinner at a Chinatown restaurant and the exciting adventure will follow after which. During this 4 hour evening tour, you will be enchanted by the diverse Chinese heritage sites and along the narrow yet busy streets of Chinatown, you can get some cheap bargains with street vendors for souvenirs for your loved ones. Furthermore, you will be given rare opportunities to visit the Yong Gallery, the fine art of calligraphy whereby free gift will also be given by the Master Calligrapher. Doesn't it sounds exciting?

• Merchandise- Can be bought at OG's People's Park it is one of the largest departmental store here in Chinatown selling a wide range of famous products like Adidas, Giordano and Billabong. Besides, Korean food products can also be found there.
• Handicrafts/ Souvenirs-  If you're looking out for some souvenirs to be brought back home, Chinatown Point will be the right place for you as the whole mall is filled with shops that sell mainly antique yet unique handicrafts.

Where can one stay at Chinatown?

• Berajaya Hotel- A 4 stars hotel that is something between budget and luxury with standard rooms service available at a price as low as $118. Located at 83 Duxton Road, Singapore.
• Chinatown Hotel Singapore- A 3 stars hotel that provides comfort and yet it is affordable at a low price of $87 for a room will be suitable for travelers seeking comfort and is on a budget. Located at 12-16 Teck Lim Road, Singapore.

This is going to be the 1st issue of our 3 part issue of FESTIVE SEASONS! 
We have decided to blog about the upcoming Christmas, Chinese New Year and Deepavali!

North of the Singapore River and to the west of the Central Business District is a road in Singapore that is the retail and entertainment hub of the city-state. Orchard Road is the main shopping street of Singapore and is regularly frequented by the local population as well as being a major tourist attraction.

Shopping can not only be by day but also possible at night as shopping malls closes at about 9.30 pm daily.

However on Saturdays, Orchard Road takes on a vibrancy when participating outlets extend their shopping hours till 11 pm. 

For sheer luxury shopping,visit Ion Orchard,Ngee Ann City/Takashimaya,Tangs and Paragon. 

Those on a tight budget and seeking cheaper alternatives would enjoy shopping at Far East Plaza and Forever 21 in Somerset 313. 

And not forgetting the gadget lovers, Lucky Plaza offers you a variety of electronic goods at really afforadable prices. 

However,do bear in mind that low prices might not guarantee good quality. A safer choice would be at Takashimaya's Best Denki. There is also an Epi Centre at Somerset 313 and Wheelock Place as well as an iStudio at Orchard Central for fans of Apple's products.

Being the island’s foremost retail hub and hotel belt, Orchard Road is equally renowned for its dining scene. From 24-hour fast food takeaways to posh-nosh outlets, modern shopping centres and hotels boast a wide slew of dining options to cater to weary shoppers. These restaurants and food oulets caters both international and local flavours,surely to appertise every taste buds. Sometimes,it can be hard to decide where to dine at!

Not far from Orchard Road is the Newton Food Centre, a legendary food spot for travelers the world over. Most of the best local dishes can be found here. Chili Crab, Stingray, Fried Carrot Cake, Ice Kachang, any singaporean cuisine you name it, they have it! :)

The bars in the major hotels along Orchard Road are a good bet for a refined drink or even to meet clients. This famous shopping belt also harbours some great clubs. Party-goers are enjoying the night away in this town~ Truly the Night is still YOUNG!

Orchard Road is for everyone,be it young or old,female or male,tourists or businessmen. All is definitely entitled to a good time. Adding to the vibrancy of the brightly lit Orchard Road by the colours and lights from the shopping malls, strings of lights and Christmas decorations brings in the mood for Christmas and New Year every November and December.

It is relatively convenient to get to Orchard Road. One can take the MRT trains and alight at Somerset or Orchard station.

Great news! To shoppers who loves to patron Orchard Road! There is a free bus service,The Great Trolley,that operates along Orchard Road. The bus route includes stops at Ion Orchard, Plaza Singapura, The Heeren, and runs from 11am to 10pm daily with a mere 5mins interval. Do note though that the free shuttle bus service down Orchard road is a temporary one,operating just for this festive period, and will end in Feburary 2011,  So next time you see a black and white tram-like bus, just hop on for a free ride.




In This Christmas season, why not make Orchard Road a shopping place for you to buy all christmas gifts for everyone! The shopping mall cater to your needs!  At the same time, enjoy the lightings around Orchard Road. 1) Marina Square

Situated within Marina Bay, it is a shopping mall that has almost everything under one roof! One can eat shop relax and play at at Marina Square.

You can sashay your way through high street fashion boutiques such as Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge, Mango, Zara and more. Pop in to the Japanese lifestyle store MUJI, or check out the latest offerings from the department store, John Little. With over 300 specialty shops, you will simply be spoilt for choice.

You can also choose to take time off shopping to enjoy a relaxing spa or manicure session while your kids have a great time at the entertainment zone where they can watch a movie, bowl, karaoke or have a game of pool. Then, meet up for a good meal at the many cafés and restaurants around the mall.


Watching a Concert


Apart from just shopping, you can also catch a concert or watch a show at the world class theatre, Esplanade.

The Esplanade houses world-class performance spaces, supported by a comprehensive range of professional support facilities and services. Last but not least, the Marina Bay Sands. One can do so much within this integraed resort! The star attraction of this resort is none other than the one of the only two casinos in Singapore! Opened 24 hours, one can try your luck by having a go at the casino! 

For those who are underage or those who have had enough fun at the casino, you guys can make your way up to the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park! 

The Sands SkyPark is an awe-inspiring engineering wonder. This unique structural masterpiece, designed by visionary architect Moshe Safdie, floats atop the three soaring Marina Bay Sands hotel towers 200m in the sky.

Stretching longer than the Eiffel tower laid down or four and a half A380 Jumbo Jets, with an impressive 12,400 square meters of space, the Sands SkyPark can host up to 3900 people. The gravity-defying cantilever is one of the largest of its kind in the world. From this privileged observation deck, hundreds of visitors at a time can feast their eyes on the unforgettable panorama view.

- S$14 for children (aged between 2 – 12 years)
- S$17 for senior citizens (aged 55 years and above)

Ticket purchase must be made in person, on the day of use.

Ticket Access:Members of the public who purchased the ticket are allowed to access the Public Observation Deck.
The use of the swimming pool facility is only available for hotel guests. Members of the public will be able to view part of the swimming pool deck adjacent to the Public Observation Deck.

With so much to do within Marina Bay itself, you are sure to enjoy yourselves all day long!
